How It All Started

Mental health is something that I am very passionate about and if you know me then you are familiar with my messages of self-love, and healthy mental and physical well-being. For those of you that are more recent readers and have not had the chance to go waaaay back into my blogs, I will give you some insight...
My journey with mental health started about 2007 when my mom was faced with some serious and traumatic life events in addition to the onset of menopause. Over the span of six to eight months she endured the loss of her mom, the loss of her sleep, a bad break-up in which she was emotionally, mentally, and physically abused, and a few other losses as well. She had tried everything from sleep meds to seeing her family doctor on a regular basis, and even therapy. Nothing seemed to work once she lost her sleep. She had gone 14 days with only 8 hours of sleep and at this point she was suffering from psychosis and other various symptoms. From there things only seemed to get worse until I put myself through pharmacy tech school. That way I could get a clear handle and understanding of the meds she was talking and the effects that they could and were having on her physically and mentally. Once I understood the pharmaceutical part of mental health, I realized that there was so much more involved. Two years later I was then blessed with the opportunity to get into the Master's program for Marriage Family and Child Therapy while working for my family business. It is so amazing how Thee Most High works and all we have to do is be open to receive and be present in the here and now.
Over the course of 3 years I received my Master's of Science in MFT and gained a much better sense of my mom's mental dis-ease and my own mental wellness. I enrolled in the program to save my mom's life and in fact I was able to save mine as well. I learned the importance of self-care and how I had done and was doing everything that I possibly could and now it was time for my mom to do some things for herself while working with a team of individuals who were going to help her gain back control of her life and well-being.
It had definitely been a long road filled with ups and downs, highs and lows, hospital stays long and short, and dramatic life changes. Mental health and well-being is soo important and I cannot say it enough. We have all been in a dark place at one time or another in life, however we made it through and we stand here today to be able to talk about it and to share it in hopes of helping someone else who may be quietly going through the same thing. Life can be funny like that sometimes... giving us shit just so we can savor the sugar. Whole Well-being is the key to mental well-being. You have to do the things to nurture yourself as a whole physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally. They are all intertwined and play an important role with each other. Don't take either part of yourself for granted. You deserve to be at your very best and to be your most truest self. Your best life is lived from the heart and soul!

The Key To Happiness

Life has a funny way of teaches us lessons. Showing us who and what we need versus what we think we need. Life will throw what we often feel is the very worse at us, just to show us that we deserve the very best. Life reminds us of our worth and our value, not only to ourselves but to others as well. Life can show us love in thee most unbelievable ways and then turn around and give us thee most unbearable pain we have ever felt. Ironic how that works out. Life will place us in situations that give us character and humility that we never thought we had, however it can also reveal the lack of character and lack of humility in others as well. Life is funny like that. Giving us alternative sides of the same view. Being a reflection of what we fail to see. Failing to see that the very reflection we often run from is our own. Let those last few lines sink in for second...
Happiness...let's talk about that for a second. I see and hear so many opinions on what Happiness is and/or should be. I rarely hear about what Happiness isn't. Well, here are my thoughts about that. Happiness is not based on anyone or anything outside of yourself. That may sound hard to believe, however it is very true. True Happiness comes from within. It comes from the very love that we have and give to ourselves. However, often times we seek Happiness through so many outside factors and we end up spending our entire lifetime searching for something that is already within us. Because the cold hard truth is that we cannot expect someone or something to give us the very thing/s that we do not and are not willing to give ourselves. How can we receive love when we do not even love ourselves? How can we complete someone else or think that someone else is meant to complete us when what makes us incomplete has absolutely nothing to do with anyone other than ourselves?
It is time that we start to look within ourselves and find the Love and Happiness that we so desperately seek from others. Is it time to Stand Up and take back control of our existence and make things happen. No longer sitting around waiting for opportunities to fall within our laps and start creating opportunities. Start loving on ourselves in such a way that those around us have no choice but to love us in the same way because we will accept nothing less.
I say all of that to say this.... True Happiness comes from within. Yes, there are outside factors that can add happiness and fulfillment to our lives, however the foundation of our Happiness comes from us first. That way, if the things and people we believe are supposed to bring us Happiness fall short, we are still fulfilled from within. That is where the True Power is! Now it is time to Take Back Your Happiness and Your Power!! You Deserve It!!

Charting New Waters

As we look towards the New Year, we all talk about how we plan on doing some things different, changing some bad habits, and chasing some new dreams and goals. And as the New Year progresses, how many of those things have we actually done or even set a plan for? How many of those things do you actually scratch off the list? This year I did something different. I didn't make any resolutions for myself. I just took initiative on the things that I know and want and need to be done. I have found myself back in an old element (basketball) and it has been exciting and frustrating all at the same time. It has been a blessing and a growing experience. I wouldn't trade it.

I have also taken the time and enrolled back into school to learn a second language. I want to stretch myself and learning American Sign Language has been something that I have wanted to do for a very long time. In college, I had a very good friend whose family was deaf and he could hear, however he knew sign language. In addition, I had a teammate who was partially deaf. You never know what life is going to throw at you or even where it is going to take you. When I first moved back from Arizona, I researched various programs and looked online for American Sign Language courses and could not find any that were suitable to my needs at the time. So, once again it became something that was placed on the back burner and quickly forgotten about. I believe that timing is everything and whatever is yours by Divine Right will come to you in the right time, not our time but the right time.
Now was the right time. It made perfect sense. I was now coaching Women's basketball on a college campus, so why not enroll into school and accomplish my goal.

This is why Being in the Here and Now is so imperative to our overall existence. Everything will not always happen when we want it or how we want it, however if it is something that you truly want and it is yours by Divine Right, then nothing can stop you from attaining it. We just need to Be Focused, Listen with more than just our ears, and at some point sit still so that we can place ourselves in a position of receiving. It is pretty simple.

As we are given the gift of seeing another day, why not take full advantage of the opportunity, the possibility. Take on New Adventures! Chart New Waters! Believe in the Impossible! Take Action! Remember, the only thing stopping you is you. Time to get out of your own way and make room for abundance! It is Your Time!

Why Play Safe When You Can Play Powerful?

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed when I heard the words, "Why play safe when you can play powerful?" Those very words stuck with me instantly. It was a phrase that I could relate to and even had to admit, have found myself in many times throughout my life's span. I could recall many moments where I had just played it safe instead of taking the risk and truly believing in myself and my abilities. Fear and Doubt had taken hold of me one time too many and I knew that it was time for a change. I was doing myself a disservice by not furthering my thoughts and ideas, by not living from my True Self. Most importantly, I was doing a disservice to those around me because I was blessed with gifts that were supposed to be shared with others.

How much of what I just stated in the previous paragraph resonates with you? How familiar did these feelings sound? As much as we want to believe we are different (and in some ways we are), we are also very similar. We share some of the very same struggles and insecurities. Life can be a complex thing, however how we take on the events and opportunities that take place in our lives play a very large part in the life we will manifest and live. That is why it is important that we believe in who we are and what we have to offer and STOP always playing it safe in an attempt to not fail, be disappointed, and or just take a risk outside of our own comfort zone.

Life is really not a mystery or a riddle. It is actually simple and amazing all wrapped into one. It can love us and or hate us, however, that all depends on how we look at and react to the things happening all around us. We have to learn to see things for FACE VALUE and not what we want it to be or think it should be. We must be brutally honest with ourselves about our rights, wrongs, strengths, and shortcomings because in doing this we gain another level of self-awareness that can help us get to the core of our true selves.

Don't be afraid to step out on Faith and not on Fear and Doubt! Fall in love with idea of stepping outside of your comfort zones on a consistent basis. Understand that your Best Life is lived outside the box and that's where all of the Magic happens. Believe that you deserve the absolute Best regardless of your past transgressions. Know that you are worthy and each day that you open your eyes, proves that you are deserving, worthy, and coveted in Grace and Mercy. This is where the Power Lays!

Playing it safe is not always the Smart Move! Sometimes you play yourself short and sometimes it works out until it's time for the Next Move! You have everything you need within you to make the Power Moves needed to live your Best Life! Carpe Diem my Friend!! Carpe Diem

How Much Skin...

How much skin do you have in the game? What I mean by that is this.... How much have you truly invested in yourself, your time, your effort? Like really sit back for a moment and think about that. Are you just going through the motions of life? Are you doing things just to say that you did them, with no real effort and no vision of the true possibilities that can come from every opportunity that is placed in front of you? Are you simply just existing? How much time have you wasted by not taking full advantage of something? How much time have you wasted by simply not taking the first step?

The answers to these very questions will require some deep hard truth and you have to be willing to be honest with yourself. No more excuses and no more finger pointing on all other variables outside of yourself. This is the moment of truth. The moment you look in the mirror and admit and accept all of your flaws and shortcomings. No more smoke and mirrors! No more wasting of your time!

So, my next question is.... Now that you have honestly answered all of the above questions... What are you going to do about it? What are you going to change? What action will you now take to enhance the possibilities of your life? And if you haven't answered all of the above mentioned questions, that's okay too. Take your time and take stock of some things in your life. Only you can change your life! It starts by changing your mindset. By opening up your mind and actions to the true possibilities of success, change, and New Beginnings. You are only limited by the very things you think about yourself.

I know I constantly talk about how you think and your perspective, self-awareness and soul searching. I do this because these things are so important when it comes to growth and success and having the life you deserve and are destined to live by Divine Right!

Just think about it. What do you have to lose and what do you have to gain by re-evaluating your life, time, and effort? It would appear to be a WIN/WIN to me. You are always your own BEST Investment! If you look back at the time you have spent, how much of it did you truly put forth real effort? And once again ask yourself.... How much skin do you have in the game?
